Asten Dawphrey is the Lord of Snow Creek and a staunch support of Jaslyn Wayward as Queen of the Mountain Realm. He is a notable character in A Death at Dawn.

Appearance and Personality[]

Asten is a handsome boy with light brown curly hair that falls to his shoulders, reddish-brown freckles, and almond shaped hazel colored eyes. He is confident and despite his calm appearance, he can be loud, playful, and impatient.

History[]

Asten Dawphrey was born in Snow Creek, the Mountain Realm, on the eleventh day of the Snow Moon during the four hundred and ninety-first year after the Secession of Man. He is the only son of Cayle Dawphrey and Klissa Payne.

In 503 SM, at only twelve years old, Asten becomes the Lord of Snow Creek after his mother, Lady Klissa, learned of her husband's infidelities. Filled with grief, she jumps from a tower, committing suicide. After Klissa's death, Cayle Dawphrey abdicated his lordship and ran off to Ihphy's Archipelago with his lover, leaving Asten behind.

Recent Events[]

A Death at Dawn[]

Asten's first appearance comes when Jaslyn Wayward sees him reading in the Grand Library. He then has an outburst in court when Gloriana Wayward finds out that Jaslyn had declared herself queen. Following his grandfather, Lord Jasper Payne's counsel, House Dawphrey secretly aligns with Jaslyn. He finds Jaslyn in the Grand Library and approaches her. After having a conversation with Jaslyn, Asten promises fealty to her.

When Jaslyn later approaches him in the Grand Library, Asten knows that something is wrong. Jaslyn confesses that she is afraid for her life, and Asten hands her a scroll with the Citadel of the Owl seal. He tells her that when she breaks the seal, she must disappear.
